<p>I think I can help - I've used this this to add people to renderings and it should work -</p>
<p>First you need to create a new material that is completely transparent and apply it to your planar surface. I'll attach images showing the settings to use.</p>
<p>Next, you need to apply your tree bitmap to the surface as a decal. This is done in the Object Properties section. It looks like your image has an alpha channel, so you'll need to select Alpha masking - see attached…</p>
