<p>The best materials you can make are by yourself, get a nice seamless texture and play with the properties. As Peter said, use the existing preset materials to make your compound materials. You can also create excellent materials using good textures.</p>

<p>Use the ones you've got as a basis for creating more.</p>
<p>Right click on a material similar to what you want in the materials palette and select Copy and Edit. This then creates a new material based on the existing one and you can then change the colour/texture/reflectivity etc. and save it with a new name.</p>
