So we ran a rendering for what ended up being 150 hours and came across a massive glitch or bug, I'm not sure what happened at all. It was a single task 1500 pass rendering so it shouldn't have taken…Continue

I'm not sure if this is a viable option, but I've noticed there is no way to track the progress a rendering through Render Farmer can be done aside from tracking the amount of tasks completed. This…Continue

"If it's working for some models and not others there is likely something in the model that's triggering the bug.  Debugging, in this case, would require simplifying the model until it doesn't happen any more, then adding back…"

"Thanks for getting back to me Roy, what would you suggest I do to address this problem? Would something as simple as reinstalling nXt Farmer be a simple solution or should I just be aware that this can happen?"

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Andrew Uno's discussion nXt Farmer Status: Not responding
"Sorry Andrew-- just getting back to things.  The nodes are almost certainly crashing.  The current Render Farm, as we discussed, is not very sophisticated.  If a node crashes it gets fired up again and attempts to latch the next task.…"

nXt Farmer Status: Not responding

I'm trying to identify a problem that has arisen as of late for me. The machines utilizing nXt Render Farm are not rendering though their individual statuses say active and they have projects assigned to them. At first I didn't think anything was going on but 2 days later low and be hold the tasks they were assigned were not done. I sat there and watched for a bit and noticed that in farm manager the machines would task would blink out for a moment then return. I then pulled up Windows Task…See More

"Hmm, I figured a log wouldn't help much I just wanted a way to verify the problem that arose was not due to human error.  At this junction in time we're going to to be running the same rendering again using the accurender and the farm…"

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Andrew Uno's discussion Is there a way I can look up an error log?
"Logging probably wouldn't help here (even if it existed).  This is the sort of situation where the software likely will not realize it has a problem-- but just go on crunching merrily away.   You can pursue this the normal way, start…"

Is there a way I can look up an error log?

So we ran a rendering for what ended up being 150 hours and came across a massive glitch or bug, I'm not sure what happened at all. It was a single task 1500 pass rendering so it shouldn't have taken nearly that long to begin with. So I grew suspicious there was an issue, upon completion I checked the image out and somehow even though multiple tests were run and the rendering showed fine in the nXt render a material bled throughout the entirety of the rendered image at approximately 6 feet up…See More

"Thanks for this.  I'm pretty unlikely to make any changes to the current farm however I am very sensitive to these suggestions.  The new stuff I'm working on is all time constrained.  For example, you ask it to render for…"

Render Farmer: Pass Tracker

I'm not sure if this is a viable option, but I've noticed there is no way to track the progress a rendering through Render Farmer can be done aside from tracking the amount of tasks completed. This is fine to some for the most part however I still really have no way of giving an estimation on completion time outside the realm of a time based upon averaged time it took to complete some of the initial pre-farm passes (which of course is wildly inaccurate).  I only bring this up as I've been…See More

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Andrew Uno's discussion nXtRender Farm Questions
"Yep, that's about it.  The individual "farmers" need to be running on each participating machine.  They all watch a common "Farm Folder" which needs to be read/write accessible to everyone.  They'll latch…"

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Andrew Uno's discussion nXtRender Farm Questions
"The nXt Render farm is a simple, in house, render farm-- NOT an online one.  If you haven't set up any machines to access the files it will remain there forever. The nXtModel is a binary dump of what the file looks like in memory.…"

nXtRender Farm Questions

Hey everyone,  New to this forum, but I had a couple of questions regarding the nXtRender Farm that I haven't really seen answered on the forums. To start I have a file that has been active in the farm for around 16 hours now and it's size is minimal the base dwg is only 25.4 MB and the complexity is rather limited, I'm unfamiliar with the potential cons of online render farms this is the first time in my career I've not had access to an in-house render farm.Is this a queue time thing? A failure…See More

"Akin, I think you need to work on the glass material more. The IOR, Reflecction and Bitmap (if any) needs to be worked on. The material characteristic is key to realistic Illustration."
