IMPORTING 3DS AND OBJ FILES WITHOUT LOSING THEIR TEXTURE MAPS

Good day everyone,

Does anyone know how to import obj and 3ds files into autocad without having the models lose their textures ?

I have imported so many but they dont come with their textures.

OBJ file doesn't care bitmaps, only the UV coordinates of each face. 3DS files can hold bitmaps externally along with the proper UV mapping coordinates. Just keep bitmaps in the model's subdirectory. You can import 3DS file using 3DSIN command in AutoCAD.

Thank you, Mr.George for the solution.

I very much appreciate it.

Good day Sir,

I am using a trial version of nxt render for autocad.

Please i imported the 3ds file but when i render it doesnt show the materials. The material balls are there with their textures missing but upon re-loading their textures, the rendering stays the same.

I was using studio lighting mode to render a chair.

And again it summed all layers as just one layer - layer zero

HAPPY NEW YEAR MR.GEORGE.

Please i still have this problem of bringing in textured meshes in 3ds format into autocad using the 3DSIN COMMAND.

Sir, what you asked me to do, the last time,  didnt work for me.

How can i solve this problem sir ?

Hi Emmanuel,

I am afraid I cannot help you any further, as I am no longer owner of AutoCAD 2014 license. So, even if you send me file you describe, it is impossible for me to do any tests inside AutoCAD. I could try to open such file using other - legal - software I own though, to find out what's going on. Feel free to send me sample 3D file of what you want to insert into AutoCAD using Accurender nXt obj or 3ds objects importing method (along with the material bitmaps you want to get on the model).

Send it here:

"Yes it's possible using the walkabout feature. There is an option that allows you to pick a walkthrough spline as your camera path and there is another that makes you glide from side to side across the scene."

"This is a 'wow' work. You deserve an applause. The light balance is very okay, and your choice of textures is applaudable.  I am so sorry for the late reply the other time. I still don't know how to bring in textured models along…"
