    My name is David Arthur Smith. I am a 57 year old physically challenged man with Cerebral Palsy since birth. I am an Athetoid quadriplegic, not able to physically speak. I rely on an augmentative communication device to communicate and a power wheelchair to get around inside my house as well as outdoors. I am currently unemployed due to my physical disability. Nineteen years ago both my parents died from health complications and they left their house and assets to me in their will. I am currently living in their house, located in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, which is currently in my name as the owner.

    EDUCATION

    • County College of Morris, Randolph, New Jersey, 9/88 to 5/91. Completed a
      7-credit special CAD course, called Computer Enabling Drafting for the
      Disabled, (CEDD). Completed self-study courses (3 credits) in Unix, C
      Language programming and Electrical Engineering. Studied 3D Solids
      Modeling during free time.

    • Union County College, Cranford, New Jersey, 9/82 to 12/82. Completed
      courses in Business Management and Mathematics.

    • Tandy/Radio Shack, Hanover, New Jersey, 6/83, three day 4 hour course in
      advance computer BASIC language programming with Dr. Christopher
      Kennett, PhD., computer science instructor.

    • David Brearley Regional High School in Kenilworth, New Jersey, 9/77 to 6/82. Completed High School Education with honors.

    • West Lake School in Mountainside, New Jersey, 9/69 to 6/77. Completed Grades 2nd thru 9th.

    • Cerebral Palsy Center in Cranford, New Jersey, 9/64 to 6/69. Completed 1st grade and physical rehabilitation.

    RECENT TECHNICAL ACTIVITIES


    During High School I had worked for B & B Builders, Inc., construction business, Westfield, New Jersey, 4/80 to 6/81, (while in high school), designed and installed a two zone heating system for a neighbor’s house with Mr Robert Parin. Designed and built a 120/240 volt AC relay switch for a 2 Horse Power 30 gallon air compressor for Mr. Robert Parin to allow him to run the air compressor on either 120 or 240 volt power where available at work sites.


    I worked for The Children's Specialized Hospital, Mountainside, New Jersey, 6/85 to 1/88 employed as their Research Design Specialist/Technician. Assisted the Coordinator of the Augmentative Communication Program with research and design of equipment and/or adaptations to devices.
