Displacement Map

what do this mean or do in the displacement maps?

1. Height
2. Facet Size
3. Z Offset

I don't know the units (I assume that are based on the dwg units):

1. Height is the height of the displacement (from the surface) ie longer blades of grass.
2. Facet is how the surface is broken up. Higher will have more detail. Like facets of a curve.
3. z offset is where the surface plane starts. You may want to push the surface back to accommodate the lift from the height variable.  height

Units are mm for for Height and Facet Size.  Z offset is unitless on 0..1.

 

You usually don't need to mess with Z Offset.  Height is obvious, decrease Facet Size to get more detail (at the expense of slower renderings.)  Try the default Facet Size first-- it's often adequate.
