Light has to pass through, hence the reason I sent the file. In my case the light coming in through the window openings passes through the vase and is refracted, hence the caustics on the board.

It has more to do with the way light passes through the glass/water medium than throwing switches.

Check the Reflective Caustic in the Reflective Finish and Highlight, in the Main tab of the Advance Material dialogue box.
