I'm trying to create a cove lighting but I don't know which type of light I should use in order to make it glow on the ceiling

I'd model a cylinder as the light source, similar to a fluorescent tube. (set to omnidirectional)

Use lengths similar to 4 foot fixtures. If you use a long tube the length of the room it takes forever for the light to fully illuminate.

If you are doing fluorescent lights I would make a cylinder extruded to the right length and tag it as a omni directional light, apply properties to mimic the lighting level you are after and set it into the cove just as you would do with a real light. There's nothing worse than spending a bunch of time faking something that can be done easily.
That's exactly what I did but it doesn't give me the glow I'm looking for
