AccuRender nXt

advanced rendering for AutoCAD

Hello,

I can't seem to start up Accurender nXt

After downloading and installation accurender states that simply typing "nXt" in the commandline will start it. -With me it doesn't.

I've tried apploading the AccuRender nXt.arx -got the message 'unable to load the .arx'

apploading AccuRender nXt_18_.arx didn't do the trick either.

I'm running AutoCAD 2010 on Windows XP Pro, 32 bits

thnx, Guido

I can not find nXt in the Windows Configuration\Software listing, so I can't uninstall it (I do see accurender 4.0 in my list) is this an indication of nXt not being properly installed?

ok thnx,

I've reinstalled nXt, now it works without loading the .arx

and without the path

But still I cannot find it in my Software listing

so maybe it is my OS? I'm running Windows XP pro

or maybe I shouldn't worry about it...

anyway now I can start reviewing the program!

thnx for all the help!

Guido

Yes-- it should show up in the Software list under "nXt for AutoCAD".  If it's not there, something is wrong.

In general, you do not need to uninstall.  Each time you run the installer it will uninstall the previous version for you.  Files copied into the AutoCAD directory, however, can present a huge problem and need to be manually deleted.  Never move things around manually like this.

Hi Roy,

Yes -I've deleted all the nXt-related arx's I copied into the AutoCAD directory.

nXt seems to be working, although it takes some getting used to the new interface, and surely to the new way of endless rendering. On first sight I miss a lot of features i"m used to with AR4...  HDRi looks good I must say!

And it doesn't list in the Software Configuration, -I wouldn't know what to do different from just installing nXt with the installer, like I did?

I believe if you wanted it to populate the software listing in Windows you need to use the Windows "Add and Remove programs" to initially install the software.

Then it will appear in XP pro on the list.

No-- all properly installed software should end up on this list.

It's a clue that something has gone wrong during installation.  It's most likely related to some type of security setting.  Normally, the software installs and self-registers the command "nXt" with AutoCAD.  For some reason, this process is occasionally failing-- more commonly on non-US installations.  It's still an open issue-- we can't reproduce it here yet so it's difficult to diagnose.

I do need to add some better documentation on what to do if the self-reg process fails-- at least to prevent users like you from copying things around.

This software is quite different from AR4.  It's not an update really-- it's a new application that understands some, but not all, of the old data.

Well, Roy,

Thanx for all the information. But now I'm puzzled.

In my firm we are working with AR for quite a long time now, for over ten years. We rely on if for presentations, mainly in sketch fases. It is simple and easy to learn and use, gives reliable results, although not all features are as stable as others.

Now we find that support for AR4 is discontinued, we've started orienting on what software to turn to next. First we look of course at the successor. The feeling that I get from the nXt site is that the software is not yet fully developed -correct me if I'm wrong! And now installation seems flawed...

I'm not sure I can really review nXt, so it makes our decision on buying the software really difficult. How can I decide to buy a program which seems to not be able to be properly installed?

There are thousands of users who have installed and run the software without incident.  It's far more stable for most users than ar4 ever was.

There are also a handful who have had installation problems.  If this isn't acceptable to you, then by all means, use something that will better meet your needs.

nXt is not a static product.  We update it by adding new features and dealing with problems approximately every two weeks.  I anticipate that this process will continue.  Again, if this is not acceptable to you, please find a product which better suits your needs.
