AccuRender nXt

advanced rendering for AutoCAD

i use "2 point perspective" a lot. in AR4 , when i moved from "pers" to "2 point pers"', everything remained the same, only the verticals straightened up.  in NXT, when i push this option, the viewpoint changes drastically, the shape of the window change,s and the flyover and walkthrough buttons become unmenageable.

can someone explain what's going on, and how to find the same old functionality we used to have ?

The "screened" area of the viewport will not render.  If you only consider the "clear" portion of the viewport it should be very similar (identical really) to before.  I'm using AutoCAD to run the WalkAbout display now-- it doesn't have a native 2d perspective.  The only way to do this was to screen off part of the view.

as you can see from the images i've uploaded - when i push the "2 point" option, the view point changes completely - it's not the same perspective anymore. that means i have to play with the flyover and walkthrough again  -  and can't seem to find the original perspective i started with. is there no way of getting the same view exactly as in the "perspective" mode - but with straight verticals like in ar4 ? i must say this is very frustrating .... passing from pers to 2-point pers used to be the most straightforward thing - now i keep adjusting back and forth and never get to the original view. by the way, when i'm in "orbit" mode in autocad, navigation is very easy. if only they could make "2 point perspective" in autocad, our problems would be solved.

It is supposed to work the same way as ar4.  It's not impossible that there's a problem-- I just haven't heard of anything yet and this projection has been in place for a long time now.  You can upload the drawing and I'll take a look at it, use the Upload a File option under Support.  It may be a little while until I can evaluate it.

still no answer. does anybody else has peoblems with the walkabout "2d pers" option ?  as i've said, in ar 3 and 4 when you passed from "perspective" to "2 point perspective", everything stayed the same, only the verticals staightened up. in NXT, part of the window disapears, the viewpoint changes, and it's very difficult to try and navigate back to the original view. if you play with the flyover and walkthrough options, very often parts of the model go into the "screened" part and do not render. if there is a way to go back to the old functionality i'll be more than glad. alternativly, if it will be possible to go to "2 point perspective" in the main autocad viewport, it might be a solution.

I agree with barak.

These perfect tools - 3AR and 4AR versions of "2 points perspective" have dissapered in the past and that's the price for using NXT. "2pp" in NXT is useless, but we have to cope with it. After switching it on - everything changes, preview becomes smaller and you never know how to move to avoid your model will dissapear at all...

So I'm never manipulating the view with "2pp" on - I'm always switching it off, setting the view (somehow) and then turning "2pp" on. Then just a little correction and saving the view - to not to be forced to do it again, because it's not possible to set the same view twice.

I have been talking about it already - the walkabout tools in 3 and 4 were much better, but I understand that NXT was written from the scratch and for some reasons it's not possible to have these simple tools anymore.

i must say this is my greatest disappointment with NXT so far - i'm impressed with it's new tools and complexity, but find myself going to my old machine with AR4 because of functionality issues. i need to do fast exterior renderings, where lighting subtleties are irrelevent. i would be very happy to have a "NXT LT" program, that runs on autocad12\64 machines, and has all the old functionality.

i'm also struggling with lighting and textures issues -  i can't seem to get the same crisp textures and crisp shadows i used to have. i take a previous model, light it the same way i used to, create new NXT materials using the same bitmaps i used for the old ar4 materials - and the result is completely different... and not for the better i'm afraid.

Like I said, the projection is supposed to be identical to the ar3/4 one.  I've also said that it's possible there's a problem here, and that I would look at it, and that I may not be able to get to it for a little while.  All of these statements are still true.

You can get very fast "crisp" exteriors by turning the sky off in Lighting->Advanced.  You can add a picture for a background -or- composite a background in using photoshop.  You can add reflections of the sky in the Background tab.  However, I should warn you that this is not the direction the product is headed, nor do I have any interest in this sort of rendering.  You probably should look for a product which better matches your needs.  AutoCAD's own renderer is not bad for this sort of thing.

Yes, I will be testing the latest NXT, 2 point perspective in the display rendering area, rendering the WalkAboutd that is abhorrent, rendering the view is not like after vertical to the screen, don't know what reason be?

As  to 2 point perspective. why not just render the autocad viewport straight instead of bringing it into walkabout to render. That way you get the desired result.

i want to perform the "2 point perspective" -   can't do it unless in walkabout view. i suggested to ron to put the same feature in the regular autocad viewport but i don't know if it can be done technically.

Perspective in walkabout.

Without doing anything but changing the Projection from Perspective to 2 Point Perspective, I have this, even if part of the desired, view is cut off, I can adjust the, "Field Of View"  in walkabout or , "Set Current Viewport in AutoCad" then in AutoCad using the, "Walk" tool move back and "Get Current Autocad View" in walkabout while still in 2 point perspective projection, unless I do not understand the problem, I see no problem, but a little adjustment here and there.

Roy - I get the feeling you might have been offended by my words - and if so I apologize. I had no ill intentions. I have been a devout accurender user for almost 20 years, and in this time I have mastered the basics of the program to such extent that it has become like a third hand to me – an indispensable tool for my work. I could build a model and render it effectively in a couple of hours, thus being able to make effective presentations in no time. I know there is a learning curve for every new product, but you must understand my frustration when I find myself struggling with the program instead of putting out useful results. Or maybe I'm just an old dog having hard times learning new tricks ? I personally, and I imagine others as well, would very much like to be able to find the old functionality besides the new one – meaning I can alternate between the two for the time of adjustment. For example, the move from acad2002\xp to acad2012\win7 needed time and learning, but I could manage to combine the new and the legacy options side by side, to have a smoother transition.
