Actually, I can assure you I was VERY lucky!

At work, our IT department just replaced all our Xp machines with Win7/8's.  The older stuff wont even try to install and every other install cant find some resource or even worse, I cant authorize any of it so im dead in the water at work, until I can get the bosses to upgrade me again.

I not 100% good with the stuff that did install at home. None of the functions that involve windows explorer work right. AR4 will generate thumbnails, but only display in the acad/ar4 windows. Also, I cant edit or save materials, so i'm stuck with what ever collections I had saved from before. It makes for tons more post work in photoshop. (That installed and runs fine :)  )

Do you mean to draw 2D staircase or 3D one? If you haven't any arch plugin for AutoCAD, you can construct 3D stair outside of it and import it as textured mesh. One good example is the following:

Download and install free Sketchup (if you haven't the Pro already). Download e.g. GK Ware Stair maker from here. (oops, it's not free :( ) Make a stair, save as SU file version maximum 8 and insert it in nXt using appropriate widget.

WHAT AUTOCAD YOU GOT..??

TRY TO DRAW A 2D STAIR THEN MAKE A BOUNDARY ( TO THE STEPS) THEN GIVE THE THICKNESS TO EVERY STEP, THEN MOVE THE STEPS TO VERTICAL SIZE.... THIS IS THE EASY WAY TO MAKE A STAIR...
