AccuRender nXt

advanced rendering for AutoCAD

Hi Guys,

This must be my 4th or 5th attempt at using Accurender NXT. I am quite pleased with the results but know I have still a long way to go to master the software. I would welcome your feedback on how I might improve these renderings. I'm never sure when I should stop! I'm going for photo-realistic. So as a woodworker, I have spent a lot of time mapping the wood grain texture bitmaps as they would look naturally. All feedback would be gratefully received. Many thanks, Sean

Mapping looks good.

You may want to try different HDR images and run the render for longer to get rid of the multiple shadows.

The wood finish looks very natural. I presume you're not after a lacquered, waxed or polished finish.

Thanks for the feedback Peter - Not sure how to use HDRs and even if I were, what are the benefits? How would they improve the renderings? What am I looking for?

Will try running render longer to get rid of the multiple shadows as a comparison but they really do not bother me that much.

I may try to add a bit of sheen to replicate a lacquered finish...any pointers on that.

Ta Sean

The image used for sky light is a HDRI. It adds ambient and reflections to your scene and can make it look more realistic.

Have a look at the attached material here for lacqured veneer settings.

Thanks for the tips Peter. I tried experimenting with HDRI images to simulate studio lighting by using a few images from accustudio. I think I done it right and discovered the effects to be very subtle and I'm sure that if I were to leave the render to run for much longer I would achieve a fuller effect.

As for the lacquered veneer settings, I applied the same settings to my wood and let it run for 20 passes. The effect was a slightly milky finish and I think I will have to experiment with that to get a more desirable finish.

Many thanks for your feed back. I'll keep practicing...

The milky finish can come from rendering on a white floor which reflects in the material.
