AccuRender nXt

advanced rendering for AutoCAD

Trying to create a night scene with HDRi map. Hoping the nap will have a moon in it (as some have the sun in them) So far I have not being successful.

  1. Is there such HDRI with a moon?
  2. What is the best approach to this?
  3. Also here I tagged the glasses as light source with 20watts each, only I cannot seems to get lights above the window lintel which where I thought the HDRi will compensate, but it is not working.

I wouldn't try to light with a nightime HDRi-- this is probably a good application for compositing.

I would try something like this:

Start with the Exterior preset.
Set Channels to 2.
Set Sun off.
Set Lights on.

Use the Channel 0 control to set the sky to a very low value-- try 0.002 for a start. Either use a black background, a night photo background-- OR-- composite one in later on.

I don't like the approach of making the windows light sources-- but if you must....
The windows as light sources is because the model was originally an exterior one so the internal partitions are missing. So it is a cheat way out.
Done all you advised including setting the brightness in the tone generator to -0.8(http://nxt.accurender.com/forums/t/4159.aspx)
Here is the result

Done all y

The sky am ok with.
Killing the sky channel and the lights in the widows will show.
So what is next now?
How do I get more environmental illumination?
I doubt you will unless theres something illuminating. There are no lights on in the house. No Street lights glowing. No landscape lighting.

I live out in the middle of nowhere and this is exactly what it looks like this time of night.
Use the sky channel to add as much environmental illumination as you want. Use a black color bg (or another color pic) for compositing purposes.

So far so good. Things I found out with lights and X-Refing
1. Lights fittings as blocks in origin drawing do not get recognize in Nxt.
2. Lights like RPC are better insert in the final scene.
3. Lights from previous versions AR3/4 do not work well in NXT.

In the scene attached, the parking lights are diffuse lights directed upwards but are expected to be reflected downwards by the reflector, this is not working why?

Because your reflector is specular (shiny) this is a caustics path-- I don't recommend trying to simulate this with caustics and path tracing, though-- it will probably take too long. If you make the reflector surface less shiny and more matte you'll get some more reflection-- indirect lighting must be on if you're not using the path tracer.

I created this replication of one of Peter Milner's renders, not with AI but with sketchup (with the matchnewphoto tool), autocad and nxtrender.Critics and comments are welcome.
