advanced rendering for AutoCAD
pls kindly help because of this challenges am facing on the image below,
1 i used the method from nxt(textured insertion) and assign materials to the car later save it with different name (dwg file) and import it using xref as showm below, when it comes to render it, it will crash.
2 also noticed that the car(acad alone file before inserting) is about 250mb while my model is 8mb.
3 if i delete the car it will render. is it bcos of trial version?

When you are crashing is it giving you a message? It could be that your 32 bit system is running out of memory because the file is so large. 32 bit systems only recognize (and use) just short of your first 4 GB of ram regardless of how much your system may have. This may be an issue with the kind of file size you are talking about. 64 bit systems have no such limitation. Run the rendering again and look carefully for text messages just before or at the time of the crash. If it is a memory issue shutting down everything unneeded for rendering may help free up enough memory.
You may also go back to the car model and run an audit and a purge on it to see if there are any errors that could be causing a problem or if the file size can be reduced. These might be a little bit of a long shot but they are free.
If it is a memory issue then a 64 bit system is the answer, albeit an expensive one. Perhapse a differnet car would be more palattable to your boss than a new high end computer.
Good luck
What make of car is it you boss is so enammered with?
If you have the car in a file by itself try purging, then export it as a .sat file.
Then import it back into a blank Acad file using the import function. This may help reduce file size. With this process you will also loose some layer and material definitions.
I think from a hardware perspective the solution is correct but the problem is probably paging file space with the 32 bit set up. Even with the 3GB switch it hits the wall pretty quick with large models.
The problem is solved by upgrading to a 64 bit system.
You probably can't use that detailed a model in 32 bit AutoCAD. You can send the .3ds file to the upload link (or send a link to it here) so I can check to see if there is some other problem.
A side issue is that you probably don't want to use a model like this for entourage. It's probably too detailed for your needs and will cause everything to slow down unnecessarily. Look for another model that is not so detailed.
If it is a 32-bit issue-- once again everybody-- this problem has nothing to do with the amount of RAM on your machine or the amount of swap file space available. 32-bit processes are limited to either 2GB or 3GB in terms of the absolute amount of memory space they can address-- period. Going from 2GB to 3GB by making sure your machine can use the larger address space sometimes helps. Aside from that there is no other solution beside upgrading to 64 bits or reducing the complexity of your data.
