advanced rendering for AutoCAD
Is there a way to remove a material from a drawing? I tried Purge, but that didn't work.

Purge. It won't work if the material has been assigned. They're just AutoCAD materials now with some extra data.
If the material is assigned to a layer, but then the layer is removed would purge work? Same question with an object.
It should. It's managed by AutoCAD at that point. AutoCAD only allows purging of objects that are unreferenced. The unassigned ones will show up in the AutoCAD Purge tree under materials with a prefix of "AccuRender-"
