AccuRender nXt

advanced rendering for AutoCAD

Good Morning.

I've run into a brick wall with a very large Autocad model.  When runnung the Render command, the Preparing Model window opens up and never goes beyound opening the actually Render window.

I've tried rendering normal and in the Walkabout window.  Lots of trees.

Using the latest nXt w/ Autocad 2010, XP-64, Duel processor - 3.0 Mhz, 16 Gb Ram, nvidia card.

Am I running into an Acad limitation problem or a nXt limination problem, do you think?

I've tried rendering at 800x600 res. with no change.

Thanks

AutoCAD shutting down. The solution is for me to be able to reproduce the problem here where I can hopefully diagnose and fix it. Anything else is just complete guesswork. Like I said, I don't think the size of the allocation is a problem. I think there's a bug. Bugs tend to show up in large drawings.
I am using a 32 bit Win 7 system with the 3GB switch. My question is how do you know when it is too much either for AutoCad, Nxt of the OS itself when is is too much.

Present project file rose to 101MB. It opens in AutoCad, shows in Walkabout window but hangs in Ray Trace window. So I start removing stuffs till i got to about 97MB file size. When through the first two sequence with problem, hangs onto the third (loading 1 of 0 {Not Responding}). About to do the three button salute when it suddenly starts rendering.

Again had I waited longer in the 101MB file would it have started at all( performance on Task Manager shows CPU 100% and Physical Memory 2.2GB of the 2.5GB installed), so when do I know when to give up.
You really don't-- very large models are not recommended in 32 bits. When you begin to approach the limitations imposed by this sort of OS, things can get very unstable. This is likely a completely different problem than what Rich is experiencing.

If you want to see approximately where you stand, look at the acad.exe process on the Process Tab. Check the memory column. 2GB is the default limit, or 3GB if you've set up your system for it.
For example, if you are set up for the large address space, and you see a number like 2,500,000 K you're likely bumping into this limitation.
A question I meant to ask earlier is this. Does Autocad 64 bit actually run as 64 bit software recognizing and using 6, 12, 16 Gb Ram, or does it run as a 32 bit in a 64 bit operating system?
If you know what I mean. Have a good day.

AutoCAD 64 is a true 64-bit application as are all of its .arx plugins including nXt. How much access it has to physical RAM is dependent (mostly) on the OS. For example, Win7 Home Premium is limited to 8GB-- Win7 Pro to 192GB-- many server platforms to 2048GB, etc.. None of this has anything to do with your problem, BTW-- all of these platforms can deal with exceeding physical RAM provided there is sufficient swap file space. They will differ in performance, of course.

If you want to see which apps are operating as 32bit apps running in a simulator, go to the Task Manager Processes Tab. These processes will have a *32 appended to their names. IExplore (internet explorer) for example, is usually run as a 32 bit app.
