advanced rendering for AutoCAD
Hola Todos

No tutorials. Displacement maps are tricky. You've got a few big problems with your example.
You need to start with a good displacement map. The ashlar map is not very good for displacement purposes. In a displacement map the white of the map is the highest point-- in this case the joints between the stone. Programs like Crazy Bump or Pix Plant can help turn standard maps into displacements.
The default facet size is too high for this map. The image below was generated using a 5mm facet size.
The strategy of using a thin solid for your ashlar wall placed on top of a standard wall will not work for displacements.
For this image I deleted your ashlar wall and assigned the material to all of the walls. Used the Path Tracer for this one. You'll notice that even with all of these changes the displacement map can still exhibit some precision artifacts in areas where the map is very steep-- left side of the wall facing the viewer, for example. Corners can also be problematic.
In my opinion you need more than one map to create a good displacement material. A diffuse map and a displacement map in some case a third map which is a specular map.
Pass forum on the topic.
Roy how can one resolve the corners as in this case. Even with small values I still cannot completely eliminate it.
Add a fillet radius.
Thanks.
One other thing in layman terms explain the function of the z-offset in the displacement variables.
adjusting the z-offset may correct the outher corners. a higher value brings the planes forward. Lower values sends them backwards. That's not exactly what happens but that's a way to understand it.
@ Juan-Carlos: to make a displacement map where the joints ar deeper i change the the original texture in PS. Inverse the picture and set the contrast higher . Use this as displacement map next to the original
Thanks Jan, I try to do that
If you want, i set up the material for you, but in that case you have to post the original texture.
