Have you being here?

Nope.

You can have 48 cores in a workstation:

or you can go for a render farm with 120 cores:

or scalable up to 4800 multi-threaded cores

Peter, thanks for the info, very interesting. Anyway I'm thinking on a not too expensive workstation able to produce acceptable renders in a relatively short time!

Actually I have doubts about the Windows7's ability to manage effectively parallel processings with multiple cores. I've read in several forums that microsoft operating system is not the best option to solve this issue.

I am seriously thinking about installing the Linux operating system to manage more effectively the multiprocess and virtualize with VMware or Virtual Box a 64-bit Windows 7 in order to use NXT, considering that both nXt Accurender neither Autocad are not compatible with Linux.

nXt on Windows 7 certainly scales well up to 12 cores (24 nXt worker threads).  I suspect it does just fine with more.  The Linux thing will likely cause a lot of headaches and may slow you down when rendering with Windows software.

Right now nXt max's out at 32 worker threads (which it will hit at 16 cores)-- I need to change that.

BTW Xi computer is a cheaper option than Boxx.  You can configure an Opteron machine for 48 cores-- this will likely be increased to 64 once they get the new chips.

Roy, thank you so much for your wisdom :)

I really appreciate all yours good suggestions...

Roy, no doubt the future multi-core technology is the present ..., in direct competition with the gpu processing.

Just saw this press release Daylitech, who says 50-22nm Intel Core Shows "Knights Corner" CPU,  50 cores in one processor, so the ability to scale can be amazing ....
