AccuRender nXt

advanced rendering for AutoCAD

With all the new features of NXT I am having some difficulty replicating the look of an LCD screen with an image on it..  I am not using path tracer for this rendering if that affects the advice given...

Here is what I have so far and the look is not working..

I have a 16:9 decal tagged as an area light set to use obects color. The reflections and color given off in the room are perfect.

The problem is that the decal itself does not seem bright enough, it doesn't have the tv "glow" and there is also no reflection on the screen..  To combat the problem of the reflection I have placed a sheet of glass material over the top and given it a low IOR with complete transparency, but this produces a "grainy" look to the decal.

Any advice appreciated! I will try to upload an image of my dillemma later. :)

Thank you for the reply.. I should have mentioned there is no sun in this rendering.. It is an interior lighted scene. Basically I am looking for a way to make the decal glossy and act as a light source all in one.
podrias usar ILUMINACION DIURNA INTERIOR este truco te servira para usar los canales. Creo qeu este es el efecto qeu buscas, cierto?
Yea, that is basically the effect I am looking for.
Attach an image so we can see what you've got so far.

decal->right-click->properties-> change reflective finish and intensity to adjust the reflection.

Sometimes changing the area light from diffuse to omnidirectional makes the decal much brighter.

Thank you! This may be what I needed! I will play around with these properties.
Amigos, hoy tratando de ayudar acabe aprendiendo un truco nuevo!!! Gracias por compartir, saludos

Here is a quick low res close up on one of the monitors in my scene.. I moved the glass a few mm out from the decal/lightsource object and that seems to help the grainyness issue.. However now the image in the monitor no longer reflects in the windows in the background (that makes sense becuase of the reflectivity of the glass, aka the view angle.. )..  So the decal is throwing the appropriate light, however as you can see the decal itself seems dingy even though it's natural color is pure white.

You can upload a test model here if you want me to take a look at it just to make sure you're not doing anything wrong.  There are a bunch of things you have to get right to make this work.

Assign the decal to a region.

Draw a small line from the centre of the region pointing out at 90 degrees

Turn the region into an area light and under properties select Use Object Color.

Right click on the light in the lighting pallette, select Aim Light and pick the outer end of the little line you have drawn. When the prompt asks if you want to rotate the object select No.

Make sure your LCD light is on a separate channel so you can alter its brightness later in the image editor.
