advanced rendering for AutoCAD
Akinlolu had a great resource for free 3ds models but I don't know how to import them while keeping the textures attached. Is there a proper way of doing this or do I need to reapply the jpeg maps?
I can insert the 3ds model via autocad but no textures. When I try inserting through the NXT widgets, under textured mesh objects, Autocad crashes.
I'm using Autocad 2011 and NXT build 249, Win 7 64
Thanks
Dean

Maybe you can try to convert it into OBJ file as textured mesh object. This format works OK for me when inserting e.g. textured shrubby-like vegetation. For the format conversion you can use software like AccuTrans (very cheap but very good!) or Deep Exploration (the Rolls Royce of converters, expensive as expected).
Can you post a sample? I could try to covert it.

Nope.
Hi Ros
I think Dean was talking about 3DS files, not max. You can open 3DS in most of programs.
Max is not an open file format, so most likely you can't do it without the presence of 3DS MAX.
1 Am very grateful for what u thought me today. but if i save it(3ds obj) as obj and later try to import it using nxt widgets nothing will happen.
2 saving it as dxf and open it with autocad explodes the model with so many layers, is there a way to import it so that i can still have the materials attached to it?
What package are you using for the conversion?
There is a *.lsp file for sewing meshes together and slicing them too if the need be. That I believe would help.
