That, of course, depends.  I was able to meet several technical goals with this engine.  No daylight sources, no transparent shadow rays, natural incorporation of caustics paths, etc.. These are all large sources of inaccuracies in the existing Path Tracer.  To keep performance high, I also had to introduce some inaccuracies.  The darkened corners are an example of that.  I also wanted the thing to be as parameter free as possible.  The user sets material properties and that's it.

Overall, I really like the approach here and I think this makes a lot of sense as the engine of the future.  I also like the fact that it's pretty unique in the world of rendering-- no one else is using exactly this approach.  I'm sure it needs some more work.  I'd like to handle scenes with many light sources better, for example.

If you're willing and you have a chance-- this model may be helpful.  Use the upload link if so.

Not nearly so many fireflies.

Is the Hybrid engine supposed to be more accurate or just a different method?

Thanks for the re-render.  Were the fireflies any better with the Hybrid engine?

It's encouraging to see the similarity of the two despite the vast differences in how the image gets calculated.  The slightly darkened corners are anticipated with this-- not sure what's up with the darker glass-- potentially a problem.

I agree with you, Peter, the shadows are too dark, with the hybrid. A shadow on the ceilling have desappeared (?) The refections seems to be stronger in the hybrid. I believe I prefer the pathtracer, but perhaps is it because the conception of the picture was done on this one.

I think that's a reflection as the white base is a high gloss lacquer.

i wonder if the shadow of the chair on the table base is supposed to be that heavy

Both images were tweaked in Photoshop so I'm not sure if the pink tinge was me.

The Hybrid engine certainly created much darker shadows in the corners which I don't like.

I also prefer the lightness of the glass in the original.

I can't tell if it is my monitor or not, but hybrid render seems to have slight pink tint everywhere. Also white walls look darker now. On the other hand, shelves with glass doors look more "realistic" to me on new image IMO. Both are top notch renderings though.

The wall is slightly off-white. The storage wall is nearly pure white

Only 27 lights plus the laptop and TV.

Here it is again rendered with the Hybrid engine. Not sure which I prefer.

Great! Peter. Questions: How many lights, Is the white on the wall a pure white (255-255-255) or with some nuances? The two point perspective is an architectural mania ;o)
