AccuRender nXt

advanced rendering for AutoCAD

i recently discovered (yep, i'm no expert) the use of displacement maps, but i simply don't understand the theory behind every slider in the settings. I understand that you need a displacement map next to the texture map. I used the bump map from arroway textures as displacement map to achieve this goal. Still don't know if that's ok. But the sliders giving me a headache and i can't find anything  in the online documentation. Can someone explain this or give me a link?

first render: flat

second render: added  bump for more realism

thirth render: first (failed) attempt to use displacement. Especially with visible edges i think this could improve some renderings a lot

I haven't really played too much with displacement, but here is my understanding of the settings.

Height: Height of Displacement from the surface.
Facet Size: Basically, this is how many pieces to make the surface. Higher numbers will make curved surfaces smoother. Kind of like how the facetres variable affects solids.
Z Offset: This is where the face begins from Z. Some displaced surfaces will lift more the others. You can use that setting to move the face in our out to get edges to join.

In your example, you may want to set a higher facet size to give better detail on the mortar and to flatten out the brick surface.
Hey, thanks Kevin. This is something i can work with
I think on the old site, Roy had some other use tips, like what type of textures it works best with and how displacement impacts render times. Did a search there and founds tons of references.

Also, there's a Grass Displacement tutorial at AccuStudio
Oops, almost forgot the good old site. Still a great knowledge-base.
I'm starting to get the hang of this. Not perfect but this is the way to go. And as i suspected, placing a decal on the object let it follow the displacement. This opens perspectives.
with displacement

without displacement

I'm new entry in nxt program

Please, can I ask you how is possible to create this relief of the brick? and how is the command to create a disturb of the textures without specular copy?

thank you

enrico

Hi Enrico,

The grass displacement link above to AccuStudio is out of date, but you can use the wood floor tutorial. Click on the link below for some good pointers about displacement maps. Also if you check out the two new nXt brick materials, I believe they use displacement maps.

Accustudio new interface looks really nice!

Thanks George! It was a couple months worth of work, but I think it will pay off in the long run.

thank you Daniel, I will try it!

ciao

CAN WE GET PETER MILNER TO TRAIN SOME OF US FOR A TOKEN ?

Good day, forum members,I was thinking that we could each, if interested, contribute a significant token to give Peter Milner and David to train us virtually in nxt render for Autocad. Am not sure he still uses it but the experience he has spanning over 20 years cannot be underestimated. I wish the forum co-ordinators could look into this. So that more of us will produce realistic renders with the paid version of nxt render and we will be able to encourage other users of other more advanced…See More
