AccuRender nXt

advanced rendering for AutoCAD

I was messing with IVY generator ( http://graphics.uni-konstanz.de/~luft/ivy_generator/ ). It produces some really nice plants for external and internal use. I was unable to find out the way of USC treatment of .OBJ (Wavefront) files. I can import 3D model in Ivy just fine but the resulting plant has its own, out of place origin and random-like position. When inserted in Acad with Textured Mesh Object command, it appears on seemingly random place, rotated and mirrored. Maybe Roy could help with this. The result is more than worth trying, even with this inconvenience. Warning: it produces some really HUGE models :) so be careful when using it...

Wonderful tool, George! Thanks!
The .obj file and .mtl file are text-based.  You can open it yourself and see.  Here's the wikipedia article on the file format.
I was thinking about the possibility to have textured mesh model UCS rotation option inside nXt. Still, can do the job without it. Thank you Roy anyway.
Some of the .obj's use a Y-up coordinate system instead of the AutoCAD Z-up.  There's no way to tell looking at the file.  It's possible that's what you're running into.  There are also no units in an .obj, so scaling is often required.  I did consider putting a Y-up checkbox in the interface but decided not to since it's usually easy to rotate the thing in AutoCAD-- I could reconsider.
George, what are settings you used? I played with this some time ago to find that greenery looks good, but is wery complicated and slows rendering down very much...
Ahoj Rosťo, I work using only visual criteria for resulting plants. When I am happy with it, I export it and that's it :) It is true that it slows down rendering times, so you can insert them on separate layer, have it turned off for the phase of preliminary renderings and turn it back on for final render overnight.

Not bad time at all, the result for me is worth of waiting :)
How do you import the ivy, via nxt add TMO wiget? As when I do they come in with colour but when I render it comes out white.
I think I didn't anything at all during export-insert process. The only trick I did was to open and then again save the IVY obj file in Accutrans rotating Z coordinate (as IVY outputs OBJ file with non AutoCAD XZY orientation)
Anyone knows a good cheap (if free the better) converter from dwg, to obj, to 3ds etc.

You can import a 3ds file into Acad.

May have beeter luck looking for a converter for a .sat file to .3ds and export the cad file to a sat.

well, the one we use is good but costly - Deep Exploration. It is very good app, it even allows you to simplify a mesh in realtime - you drag the slider to and see immediately, how the geometry degrades. We are usually able to decrease the polygon count by 70% while keeping the appearance

"Thanks for your kind words. Yes, all plants are generated with nxt plant-editor. I have used leaves from Marc Chaumier's plant library. (Download/ Content + Entourage)"
